California is known for a variety of reasons. It houses the world's best winemakers, foremost physicists, artists and musicians. But the City Of Angeles is California's greatest talking point. Los Angeles is the cultural, economical and social capital of California, only unseated by Sacramento - the political capital. Its presence in music, movies, comics has made it a global phenomenon. Los Angeles is Hollywood. But what about the areas around LA? In close proximity, there exist towns and cities that boast both wondrous natural wealth and man-made entertainment. Looking to see the grand beauty of the Americas? Head to Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada, home to America's best National and State parks. Looking for some party fun? Head down to Las Vegas or Reno (across the border in Nevada) for Michelin starred food, big-name entertainment and top notch casinos. Looking to relax and pamper yourself? Numbering in the hundreds are world-class and world-famous luxury resorts, hotels and spas. LA is truly the focal point of entertainment. But fun can be found outside as well.
Las Vegas
What happens in Vegas? Everything! A vacation in America's most infamous city will leave you spent, but definitely wanting more. Win big at its themed casinos - the Bellagio, Caesars Palace and the Mandalay Bay just to name a few. Relax in its specialist spas, luxury hotels and resorts, or dine like a king at its world-class restaurants such as the Alder & Birch, BARAMASA or the Michael Mina restaurant, all found right there on (or by) the Las Vegas Strip. A massive theme park in itself, with events, exhibitions, indoor/outdoor experiences (the Shark Reef Aquarium, the Voodoo Zipline and the MARVEL Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N to name a few), Vegas is an adventure for anyone. Las Vegas leaves you pampered, as if Calypso herself were there, rolling the dice with you.
Reno
The "The Biggest Little City in the World", Reno is nestled by the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the west and by the Truckee River to the north. A casino town, Reno, leverages its proximity to some of North America's greatest natural reserves -Lake Tahoe, Lake Washoe and the Sierra Nevada, and is the ideal town for a weekend getaway. Ski resorts, natural trails, hiking spots, sanctuaries and boating opportunities are all found to the west, while the inner city offers a more man-made experience -casinos, restaurants, a diverse shopping district, restaurants, bars, golf-courses, exhibitions and museums (of which the National Automobile museum is a must). The city of Reno may not be as glitzy as its southern sister - Las Vegas - but it ensures that its visitors leave with happy memories and more than light wallets.
Laughlin
A small port town located by the Colorado River, Laughlin is the underdog among the glamorous casino towns it competes with. 90 miles south of Las Vegas, it is smack in the middle of three state lines - Nevada, California and Arizona. Considered a "budget Las Vegas", Laughlin offers its visitors all the same amenities and entertainment (casinos, resorts, spas, restaurants and both indoor and outdoor experiences such as boating, mountaineering, biking, fishing, waterskiing, etc.), as the name suggests - at a wallet-friendly price. One can find himself enjoying the quiet beauty of the Lake Mohave, hiking along the Christmas Tree Pass Rd, to the Spirit Mountain, horseback riding at the Pot-A-Gold stables, experiencing the Wild West all over again at the Oatman, ogling at American classics at the Don Laughlin's Classic Car Collection or just gambling away the Regency or Avis Casinos all along the Colorado River. Remember, Laughlin's appeal is its quaint nature. You want quiet, relaxed, budget fun? You go to Laughlin, the locals will tell you that themselves.
Lake Tahoe
Located in the Sierra Nevada - a mountain range that cuts between Nevada and California - Lake Tahoe is considered the largest alpine lake in North America. Untouched for over 2 million years, the lake remains primal at its best. It is an important tourist attraction for both states and is home to a variety of ski resorts, hotels, spas, casinos, national parks and - famously - American winter sports. Visit the Emerald Bay State Park, Mantis Peak, the Donner Memorial State Park, Pope Beach or the Inspiration Point for a memorable time, either with family or your significant other. Lake Tahoe combines everything truly American - a grand natural setting and a nightlife that never stops. Bored of seeing endless trees, magnificent sunsets and feeling one with nature? Head down to any one of the hundred world-class casinos and enjoy Michelin starred food, wine and big-name entertainment for a night you will never forget.
