Varkala is the home of the 2000 year old Janardhana Swami Temple. With both beautiful backwaters and beaches, Varkala seems to be blessed with the best of both worlds. Why Visit ?
Janardhana Swami Temple: Over 2 millenniums old, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. An important pilgrimage destination, this temple maintains a strict dress code, without which entry is not allowed. Sarees for women and mundus for men are compulsory. A must visit to experience ancient India!
Timings: 5.30am to 12; 5pm to 8pm

Anjeno Fort: Once occupied by the Dutch, the Portuguese as well as the British, this fort has found its importance in the history of India. Containing a cemetery and ruins of an old English fort, Anjeno fort delves headfirst into the dark past. Currently under the title of a National Heritage Monument, Anjeno fort was chosen by the East India Company as their first trade settlement in Kerala. 
Timings: 9am to 6.30pm

The beach: Take a stroll down the beach or simply enjoy a tender coconut while observing the horizon. The cheerful spirit of the place will certainly keep you happy!

Paravur: A small town near Varkala showcasing backwaters, beaches and estuaries. Efforts are being made to develop Paravur as a tourist destination. Beautiful backwaters wait for those who discover this region. Enjoy a day of peace by the beaches of Paravur. 

Kathakali: Watch the traditional dance form of the region, Kathakali performed every evening at the Varkala Cultural Center. Be transported into the world of dance with this expressive feat.
