The Dune is a thematic hotel designed to cater to the growing demand for long stay destinations with soul and comfort where cultures, ideas and people mingle with one another.
It is a 30 acre eco-friendly beach hotel with unique 26 aesthetic villas and 15 villas fusing modern and traditional architecture, swimming pool, organic farm, tennis court and 700m of sea front, welcoming guests all through the year. The bungalows are sparsely spread and discreetly hidden over 30 acres and 700m of beach front. Each one is of a unique inspiration, furniture, size, facilities & has its own private garden.
Guests at The Dune can experience a large range of activities like SPA wellness therapies and massages, Health club, Yoga and Meditation, Bicycle, Tennis, Volley Ball, 2 km in-house jogging track, Golf Putting lawn, Boating, Horse riding, Kite flying, Table games, book librairy, DVD library with more than 1500 movies and the suspended swimming pool with its large deck overlooking 700 mt of beach and the Bay of Bengal.
The Dune is also the base for AIR (Artists In Residence) a programme providing work studios for Artists from all around the world.
Guests have an option to choose between 33 different room types/bungalows. Each bungalow is uniquely designed and reconstructed partly using reclaimed building material from South Indian colonial houses. Each one is of a unique inspiration, furniture, size, facilities & has its own private garden.
The Art Deco House
This is a replica of a 60 year old south Kerala Art Deco wood planters house. It has 2 separate rooms with attached bathrooms, a large lounge in between both rooms and a back and front private garden.
The Artist Studio 1 with Private Pool
The entrance of the building is the original reconstitution of the entrance of a Chettinad Mansion with the traditionnal «Tinai» to sit on, waiting to be received by the Master of the house. Very pure in design,this suite has original photo prints from Artist photographer Deidi Von Schaewen to screen off the room and the bathroom. A mezzanine with extra bed to accomodate children is available. The bathroom is adjacent to the swimming pool in the private garden surrounded by a compound wall.
The Artist Studio 2 with Private Pool
The main door leading to the room is reclaimed from a merchant house from Karaikudi, South Tamil Nadu. Very minimal in design, this suite opens up to a private garden with swimming pool and bathroom. Original oil paintings by Pondicherry painter Danasegar are on display. It has a mezzanine with extra bed to accomodate children.
The Artist Penthouse
At the first floor of the building, there is a very large open space that has an amazing 360 degree view on the property and the sea. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi and a shower. The penthouse also has an attached private roof terrace.
The Bamboo House
This very large house is built using bamboo weaved mats as wall partitions and bamboo furniture.It has an outdoor lounge facing the private garden.
The Bamboo House 2 & 3
A long palm tree leaf and casuarina wood roof is divided into 2 rooms with 2 attach bathrooms. A door between the room interconnect them. Each one has an open terrace and private garden.
The Bangle House
The Bangle House is decorated by French designer Carol Arnaud-Goddet using broken pieces of traditional glass bangles pasted on the furniture and with her Mandala paintings. It has a a/c room, a separate lounge, bathroom and a private garden.

Built using casurina trees and weaved coconut palm leaf, not far from the swimming pool on the beach front with sea view.

The Doll House
A 80 year old wood planters Kerala house displaying old wood and cloth dolls and children miniature toy colonial furniture.It has one ac room with attached bathroom on the first floor with a spectacular view on the sea and the pool.It also has a a lounge in the ground floor with a study with attached bathroom and a large private garden.
The Dome House
Inspired from the ancient temple constructions, the roof building is designed to self support itself.Indigenous materials of lime mortar and mud bricks have been used for the construction. It has a outside lounge on a elevated old Burma teack wood deck with a private garden.
The Family House
The best place for long stay with family or friends. Two well anointed rooms with 2 separate bathrooms, private garden, lounge, dining and equipped kitchen.
The Flex House
The latest attraction of The Dune, it is been designed by French artist Franck Thesée and fashion designer Aicha Abbes. It is enclosed by lighted flex material printed with a surrealist picture collage. It has an sea facing outside lounge with a private garden.
The Flower House
This is a large private garden of 5000 sq feet fenced by coconut palm leef with an open Gazebo sheltering a colonial Iron bed, a sofa made by a very high rosewood Tamil pictured bed and a separate open roof with long open bathroom. It is sea facing an it is the best place to enjoy the sea breeze and watch the stars. Only for nature lovers.
The Garden Suite
2 Garden Suites are available. Each one is unique in design, decoration and furniture.Located at the first floor they have beautiful sea view. They also have their private outdoor sitting and roof top garden. These are very centrally located in the property and close to the restaurant.

The Gramam House
An old colonial early 19 century village style house with a sea view and a private garden.The large room displays old terracota fruits and vegetables, it has a separate lounge and an attached bathroom.
The Karaikudi Suite
Designed by French Craftsman Vincent Grimaud, This very large suite is built using old wood, architectural elements, tiles, paintings and furniture from a Chettinad palace. It has an indoor and outdoor lounge and a private garden. The window carvings is considered one of the best example of Chettiar refinement.
The Kerala Suite
A 150 years old Kerala Planters Mansion made out of wild Jack fruit timber with original in-built furniture and exquisite carved ceiling. It has 2 rooms with attach bathroom, 1 indoor lounge, 1 outdoor lounge with a private garden and a pond. Recommended for a family.
The Mud House
An ode to the ancient craft of Terracotta, built with indigenous mix of mud and cow dung. The design inspired from the traditional Tamil craftsmen house, a room with open lounge leading into cactus garden and separate bathroom.
The Nawabi House

The Pop House
A traditional indigenous house on stilts with thatch roofing. It is a visual expression of French Artists Michel and Carol Arnaud Godet of Indian Cinema and Pop culture. It has a private garden with a counpond wall made of granite pillars.
The Sambu House
A small house on stilts made of Casuarinas trees and Beetlenut wood covered with local straw called in Tamil « Sambu ». 1 room with open terrace and attach Bathroom made out of granit pillars with private garden.
The Silver Room
At the first floor of the tower, the interiors are minimalistic with silver painted walls. One attached bathroom. It also has an attached peeble garden terrace roof with sitting and colonial canopy bed for the siesta. Great view on the sea.
The Surya Suite
Beautifully designed by French Craftsman Vincent Grimaud, it is a large suite with an open bathroom and a separate toilet. Surya is Sun in Tamil and the room has a special lights design. It has an indoor and an outdoor lounge with a private garden.
The Tower House
Uniquely scenic duplex House at 50 feet height overlooking the bay of Bengal and the entire bioregion. First floor with a lounge and balcony and second floor with bedroom and bathroom.Not recommanded for people with vertigo. Children not allowed.Voted best honeymoon suite in India by India Today magazine.
To the south (15kms), lies Pondicherry, an ex French colony with its quaint colonial houses and numerous restaurants. The entertainment ranges from amazing shopping experience in the street bazaars to quiet cultural evenings in Alliance Francaise. Sri Aurobindo's Ashram is also a place to visit. Also to the south, but closer (8km) is Auroville, an experimental township sustaining a unique community. Life with people from 44 different nationalities living and working together, this utopian concept is the realization of the dream of Mirra Alfassa, a French disciple of Sri Aurobindo, known as 'The Mother'.
To the north, on the way to Chennai one can visit the ancient Pallava port of Mahabalipuram, famous for its magnificent shore temple, iT's rathas (stone chariots) and its numerous talented stone sculptors.
To the west, lies Gingee, an ancient fort set amongst a landscape of granite chaos, further west (50km), lies the town of Thiruvanamalai, famed for its very large and ancient temple and the sacred hill called Arunachala, symbolizing the element fire. At the foot of this hill, lived one of the greatest seers of India, Ramana Maharshi.
Trips can be organized even further to Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Swamimalai, Karaikudi, Madurai etc, places that offer a unique insight into enchanting Tamil culture.
