Southland is an enchanting holiday destination surrounded by bountiful natural beauty.. To the west, you'll find the World Heritage Site, Fiordland National Park,where you'll be spell-bound by jagged misty peaks and glistening lakes. Here, you could try cycling through the Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track, one of NZ's wildest tracks. Fiordland also houses Milford and Doubtful Sounds which you can reach and explore by road, boat or kayak. To the east of Southland, you'll find the tranquil Catlins. Around this coastline, the waterfalls, the lush forest and the diverse wildlife will demand your undivided attention. Then comes Invercargill. Here you'll be surrounded by Victorian and Edwardian buildings, parks and gardens. Queens Park is the jewel of Invercargill and is spread across 200 acres. Towards the end, you'll find Stewart Island or Rakiura. This island nurses friendly seafarers and beautiful rare birds, including NZ's icon, the kiwi. Southland is the perfect destination for seafood lovers. There are several local delicacies but the most loved are the oysters you get in Bluff, a region world-renowned for its oysters.
