Getting to Mersing
Mersing is a town frequently visited by locals and foreign tourists while in Tioman Islands. With its many beaches and fishing ports, this place makes for the perfect one day stop over. And for the adventurers, there is Endau Rompin National Park. Tourists can trek through the jungle to see a wide variety of wild life animals and an exotic array of orchids. The foodies will enjoy the numerous restaurants which serve the local Malaysian cuisine. One has to take a 2 hour ferry ride from Tioman to get to Mersing. To get around, one can rent motorbikes. But what is widely suggested is walking around and exploring the place at your pace. Accommodation is cheap.
All those looking for a quiet and secluded getaway could go island hopping around Mersing. Besar, Batubatu and Rawa islands, are small islands appriximately 30 minutes ferry ride away.

Rawa Island: The island got its name 'Rawa' because of the abundant Rawa (white doves) on the island. The beach on the island is covered with white sand and is followed by pristine clear water.  Fishes, squids, jellyfish, octopuses, Malayan sea eagles, reptiles and Blacktip reef sharks adorn the waters. There is an abundance of corals too that dwell in the waters.

Besar Island: The island is distinguished by white sand beaches and clear azure waters. To protect the marine life from activities that may harm the natural habitat, the government has gazetted it as a marine park. The island is also dotted with lush green coconut palms and tropical jungles.

Batubatu Island: In Indonesian and Malay, batu means rock or stone. The Batu Islands are an archipelago of Indonesia located in the Indian Ocean. Initially, the islands were a destination for slaves and now the islands have become a destination for surfing boat charters from Padang, on the Sumatran mainland.
