Located in New Zealand's South Island, this small town has a population of less than 400. Enveloped by the countryside, the area is serene and relaxing by day, and unbelievably beautiful at night. Part of a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, the main attraction here is the sky at night time which displays millions of stars reflecting off of the turquoise waters in the lake. This sight is one that is truly unparalleled and breathtaking. Whether you're camping with family or out on an adventure with a loved one, Lake Tekapo is bound to leave you speechless. Another thing that attracts people from all over the world is the Southern Lights, the southern hemisphere's equivalent of the famous 'Northern Lights'. Due to the clear sky and very low levels of light pollution, during the months of April-September, the night sky hosts a fantastic natural light show which is something that will be etched in your memory forever. Other attractions feature the Church of the Good Shepherd and the interesting Mackenzie Basin history, that are worth exploring.
