Description
April 17, 1975 was the fateful day when Phnom Penh fell into the hands of the Khmer Rouge, a moment that changed Cambodia's course in history and marked a dark day in the lives of the locals. Your tour begins at Tuol Sleng High School, that was turned to a torture and execution camp under the harsh regime. This place is now renamed as Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.

After a spine-chilling time at the museum, your next stop is the Choueng Ek Memorial - or better known as The Killing Fields - where Khmer Rouge personnel's killed and buried detainees. This place is marked by a pagoda made up of some 8,000 human skulls.

Right after that, you can leave the grim history behind, as you make your way for a meal at a NGO training restaurant. From there, board a moto-remork (Cambodian tuk-tuk) to head out of Phnom Penh and catch a ferry across the mighty Mekong River to Mekong Island.

Mekong Island is famous for their silk weaving, so you can try silk-weaving or even purchase some products. Make haste to visit tourist sites like the Buddhist temples, floating fish farms, and fields of rice and morning glory.

Next, stop at a local's home to enjoy Khmer snacks before you board the ferry to watch the sunset. Along the boat ride, keep your eyes peeled for sites like Khmer-influenced buildings such as Wat Ounalom, the Royal Palace, and the Silver Pagoda, as well as French colonial buildings. Finally end your tour as you make your way back to the hotel.
