The Andamans - the very name conjures up images of mysterious islands with dense forests, native tribes and uncharted seas. Among divers, this region enjoys a reputation of being one of last remaining places offering pristine reefs and amazing fishlife and also retaining its idyllic charm and serenity. Until now, the Andamans have been a very remote destination to visit - but with the islands slowly opening up, whispers about the wonders of its underwater world are also starting to gain volume.

This is where Island Vinnie's Tropical Cabanas and Dive Center comes in. Situated on the island of Havelock, they are a full service dive center and resort based in the Andaman Islands, and offer a total experience for the visiting diver - professional dive operations, comfortable accommodation, assistance with travel and logistics in the Andamans and serious value for money.

Island Vinnies Tropical Beach Cabana offers accommodation in plush, safari-style semi-permanent tents and comfy huts.

Room types
Standard Huts
For travelers on a budget, the Standard Huts are a very good option and a significant improvement over other comparatively priced budget accommodation options. These comfortable and roomy huts come with decent-sized beds, ample shelf space and a fan. What sets them apart from other budget accommodation is the attention they have spent on the common toilet/showers.

Upgraded Huts
They have upgraded some of the Standard Huts to include an attached bathroom, with open-air showers as well. In other respects, they are the same as the Standard Huts above. For the budget conscious - especially those who think that a room is mainly for storing gear and sleeping - these provide an excellent value in rooms with attached bathrooms.

Tented Cabanas
These large and tastefully decorated Swiss-style luxury tents are the same design as used by expensive resorts elsewhere. Built on permanent plinths, these tents are decorated tastefully & exude coziness and comfort, with a lot of little touches which go a long way towards making your stay more enjoyable.
Amenities like plenty of plug points that make your life easier, ample storage space for your clothes, a balcony with rocking chairs for relaxing with a book, a powerful fan and electronic mosquito repellants or mosquito nets, whatever you prefer, and an en-suite bathroom are provided.

Dining at "Full Moon" Beachside Restaurant
The Restaurant offers a significantly greater menu, expanded service hours and a whole new look and feel to the dining experience. There's good food. Not the big-plate-miniscule-portions kind of good food, but the hearty, tasty, elbows-on-the-table kind of good food.

Nanny service (with prior arrangement)
They can provide a babysitter for your kids while you go diving or snorkeling or hiking or exploring.
 
Internet/email
There are cybercafes nearby for you to use for regular browsing. However, if you have any urgent email needs, etc, they can hook you up to the office internet, on request.
 
CD/DVD burning:
Have a memory card that's full? Bring it by and They'll burn it onto archival-grade CDs or DVDs for you

Diving
The waters of the Andamans conceal many unexplored wonders - uncharted wrecks, large schools of manta rays, big pelagics, turtles and more. Island Vinnie's offers both fun diving and a full array of PADI, NAUI and SSI dive courses - all diving activities are managed by DIVEIndia, the most experienced team of dive professionals in the Andamans, combining safety and fun to provide a great experience for all skill levels. All diving is conducted in small groups, with a high emphasis on safety and fun.

Snorkeling trips
If you want to take a day off diving, consider a half or full day snorkeling trip. Visit the best reefs of the Havelock area in the company of a dive professional who can help you identify what you see, and also give you tips on improving your snorkeling and skin diving capabilities.

Mangrove cruises
Take a trip back into time. Board one of the island-style canoes and go exploring the narrow mangrove waterways. With luck, you may even spot one of the rare salt-water crocodiles that are known to inhabit the area.

Kayaking
Explore some of the nearby islands and mangroves with their kayaking pro - combine it with lunch and a mangrove cruise for a full day in some of the uninhabited islands around. Or simply go out for a short spin in the lagoon in front of the resort.

Fishing trips
Spend a morning or afternoon fishing for the local pelagics - barracuda, trevally, jacks and tuna - with an expert guide who has spent decades fishing in the local waters. Fishing trips are strictly catch and release - absolutely no exceptions.

Bird-watching
Explore the variety of birdlife in the Andamans, including a chance to spot some of the many endemic species. Within a few minutes from our resort, you can see species ranging from the white-browed mynah & magpie robin to white-rumped munias, brown shrikes, white-bellied sea eagles, whimbrels, black-naped orioles, long-tailed parakeets, chestnut-headed bee-eaters and Andaman specialties like vernal parrots, Andaman crane and Andaman serpent eagle.

Beach barbeques
They offer catered beach lunches for groups who want to combine a day of snorkeling and/or hiking with some pampering on the beach. They also offer romantic, candle-lit dinners for 2 (with fine domestic and imported wines) on the beach - an experience to remember and cherish!
 
Hiking
The outdoor enthusiast will find a variety of half-day hiking trails in Havelock, some leading to hilltops and others to secluded beaches. Combine that with a picnic hamper and have a wonderful day of solitude.
 
Village and cultural tours
If you are interested in experiencing a day in the life of a traditional Andamani fisherman, or checking out the sights and sounds of Indian villages then the Resort would make arrangements for Village cultural tours.

By Air
There are daily flights to Port Blair from Kolkata and Chennai.

By Sea
You can also take a ship from Chennai or Kolkata.

From Port Blair
There is a daily ferry boat from Port Blair to Havelock, departing at 6.00. Needless to say, this boat leaves before your flight gets in. Then there are 2 afternoon boats - one sails at 12.30, sometimes going via Neil Island en route and the second leaves at 14.00 hours. There is also a private ferry which departs at 09.00 and gets in by 10.15 - so it is very convenient for those arriving early.

On the way back, you have to get into Port Blair the day before your flight departs. There are boats leaving Havelock between 14.00hrs, and 16.30hrs. The evening ferry is the best way to do so - and if you want to squeeze in 2 extra dives on that day, you are welcome to do so. They'll get you back in ample time to catch your boat.
