Named after the 'Heron', a type of rich bird that inhabits the island, Heron Island is an evergreen coral cay. It is located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by 24 hectares of coral reef.
Listed at a Marine National Park, the island's total flora and fauna are protected. Along with this, it has dense Pisonia forests and an array of animal life which make the place heaven to nature lovers.
The Heron Island is most famous for its excellent scuba diving and snorkeling in the beautiful clear blue waters. Other land activities such as guided island and reef walks, private beach picnics and animal/bird walks are also available.
