Why Visit ?
Tairawhiti Museum: Considered as Gisborne's art hub, this gallery focuses on East Coast Maori and colonial history. It houses various rotating exhibits, historic photographic displays, maritime wing and a vintage surfboard collection.
Outside this museum, you can also see Gisborne's oldest house.

Cook Monument: In the Titirangi Park, is a spot that shows Captain Cook's first step in NZ soil. The monument is also the landing point of the Horouta waka.

There are various other sites to visit if you want to dig deeper and learn more about the Maori culture.
Gisborne has some of the best surf beaches so surfing is the most popular water sport in the region.

Other sports that are available are cycling through the local sights and wineries.
You can also consider a unique fun activity and grab a tyre tube to cushion the bumps and slide down the 60m-long rocky run, Rere River, into the pool at the bottom.
USSCO Bar & Bistro: The restaurant is located in the Union Steam Ship Company building and defines class. The seasonal menu features dishes like soy-glazed pork belly with caramelized yams, parsnip puree and toasted nut salad. It also has good desserts, local wines and NZ craft beers.

Villaggio: When you walk through the gate you'll see an old art-deco house which has been redecorated to a super-smart restaurant. The menu offers fresh takes on classics and Med-style dishes.
Considering the climate, it is one of the best places to shop for sunglasses
