Kassel is a city in central Germany with a unique charm of its own. The fairy tale like city is located in the state of Hesse, a four-hour drive west of Berlin. Particularly known for the showcasing of documenta - an exhibition of contemporary art which takes place every five years here, Kassel has a long history dedicated to art, craft, and architecture. The city was rebuilt in the 1950's after 90% of it was destroyed during World War II raids. It now houses a world-class collection of medieval buildings, parks, and museums. The most famous being the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, built in 1786 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
