Located in East Germany, bordering Poland and only 130 kilometers away from Berlin, Cottbus is an energetic city with a lively populace and a splendid past. The city's medieval structures have withstood the test of time and continue to attract history and architecture enthusiasts from all over the world. Buildings such as the Spremberger Tower, Puecklerpark-Branitz Castle, Enke-Fabrik and St.Nikolai Church have retained their antiquated feel. Cottbus is also famous for its collection of historical and cultural artifacts in its many museums such as the Wendische Museum and Brandenburg Art Museum. The city is most notably famous as the political and cultural center of Sorbs, a West Slavic ethnic minority living in Lusatia (a region divided between Germany and Poland).
