The first planned city in the country, Chandigarh is the best definition of a city. With a perfect blend of traditional Punjabi culture and modern architecture, the city is a feast for the eyes. The architect who designed most of the city was instructed to make it look like a morning dream, therefore there are trees and natural flora all over the city, giving it the nickname "City of Gardens". Chandigarh lives up to its nickname as there are over half a dozen gardens in the city which are famous throughout the country, including the very popular Rock Garden which is decorated with artificial rock sculptures and art pieces which blend with the flowers and trees of the garden. Apart from this, another famous garden is the Cactus Garden which is the largest botanical collection of Cacti in Asia.
Despite the urban look, the city still holds true to its root cultures; Punjabi festivals, cuisine and traditional wear are still popular in the city, making it the perfect place to learn and experience new cultures while still being familiar to the comforts of a modern city. Chandigarh also offers a wide range of mouthwatering Punjabi dishes as well as international cuisines. While you're here be sure to try the Lachha Parathas, Tandoori chicken, Butter chicken, Chole bature and other delicious regional delicacies. The town also has a number of pubs and breweries for any who would choose to visit for a drink. But the one drink that you simply must try while visiting is lassi, a signature Punjabi beverage; it would be a crime to leave without having any!
