The medieval city of Brandenburg an der Havel hosts a rich cultural history brimming with classical vibes, dating back about almost a thousand years. The majestic edifices here are the end product of a great architectural uprising that gave birth to the brick Gothic architecture which is characterized by the lack of figural sculptures. Gothic, Baroque and Romanesque architecture are the most prominent types of architecture witnessed here. The Brandenburg Cathedral, Rathenower Torturm, Museum im Frey-Haus, State Archaeological Museum, St. Gotthardt Church etc are significant examples and places of great interest. The city lies on the Havel river, a tributary of the Elbe and is easily accessible from Berlin, which is less than a hundred kilometers away in the east.
