Clare Valley is one of Australia's oldest wine regions. It is often called Australian Riesling because it is most famous for the Riesling wine. The climate in this region is suitable for other grapes too like Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Merlot. You can visit the 40 plus wineries and cellar doors by walk, cycle or by limousine while you enjoy the sight of open skies, rounded hills and wheat fields. The region has many secluded picnic spots, wineries and restaurants where you can have delicious food made from locally grown produce. There are also a couple of galleries and museums that pay homage to the bygone days and conservation parks where you can see wombat fossils, stunning native wildflowers and colonial properties such as Bungaree Station. A perfect getaway to lay back and loosen up with wine in your belly. It is also a perfect getaway for honeymooners. The Valley is only 100kms (62 miles) from Adelaide. You can stay in quaint little bed and breakfasts and have a great holiday.
