Why the name 'Blue Mountains'?
The entire stretch of the 'Blue Mountains' is dotted with eucalyptus trees that release large amounts of fragrant oils into the atmosphere, which when refracted give off a blue haze, thus the name.

By Car: The most popular choice of transport is by car. From Sydney, a short and scenic drive via the Blue Mountains National Park promises a good road trip. For a pleasant drive accompanied by spectacular views, take the route via Bell's Line starting at Richmond.
By Train: There are frequent trains to the Blue Mountains from nearby cities. From Sydney, a train journey typically takes about 2 hours and makes a comfortable option.
By Air: If you find yourself travelling internationally to Australia, the nearest major airport to the Blue Mountains area would be Sydney airport from where one can take a train/bus to the mountains.
When's the best time to visit?
Being a year-round destination, the mountains remain inviting through every season, with each offering a different experience.
Summer (December to February): This time is suitable if you're looking to indulge in outdoor activities. The days are pleasant and not so sunny, whereas the evenings are cooler and very refreshing, making it perfect for camping, hiking, bush walking, etc.
Autumn (March to May): The mountains are their finest during this season, varying from green to orange. Outdoor activities are still recommended, however there can be sudden changes in weather with the evenings turning cold. It is best if you aren't going too far away from your room during this time.
