The Verandah in the forest is a new path in the forests, up in Matheran, the last British hill station, with a beautiful view of the valleys and the mountains. You can chug up in a toy train, walk, trot or dandi in palanquins past the gigantic mansions built by the British, the Parsis and the Bohras - for Matheran is Asia's only pedestrian hill resort.

There are 11 rooms and suites in this heritage hotel at Matheran and they are categorized as Luxury Suite, Suite, Grand Room and Room. The rooms provide facilities such as air-conditioning, attached bath with running hot and cold water, and more.

Mumbai-Dasturi is 2.5 hours by road. The car park is 4.5 kms away from the property at Dasturi - which is as far as motor vehicles are allowed. You have to pay for parking, and for a ticket to enter Matheran.

From Dasturi one can walk, hire coolies (for baggage), ride a horse, or take a hand-pulled rickshaw to reach the property. Most modes of transport cost Rs. 100 per hour. The journey up to Matheran takes about one and a half hours.

Guests are advised to reach Dasturi well before the sunset to relish the jungle and to truly enjoy their arrival at The Verandah.  
There is also the option of taking one of the Mumbai-Pune express trains to Neral Junction (please check the schedule as not all of them stop at Neral) from where a 77 year old heritage toy hill train to chug up 21 km to Matheran can be taken. Alternatively, for faster transportation, one can take a taxi from Neral to the Dasturi car park.
