Dining is a pleasure at Peter's Park. They offer buffet style of service, as past experiences have proved that this is the most appreciated system. Menu selections vary each day taking into account the available ingredients and guest preferences.
The day begins with your choice of either coffee or tea and a biscuit or two. Breakfast, most often, is in true South Indian style. Bread and preserves are always included. Lunch and dinner includes Soup, Salad, both vegetarian and non vegetarian side dishes, choice of breads, rice and of course dessert. To bridge the long gap between lunch and dinner, there is a short eat to accompany a cup of tea.
Once you have arrived, they have the perfect recipe for a relaxing vacation! First choose your favourite activity from a list including trekking, biking, boating, sightseeing or just plain relaxing.
Trekking: Yelagiri has some interesting trekking routes with Swamimalai topping the list. However a cool stroll or ride through the quaint villages is a definite boost to your health. Well paved roads connecting the villages allow one to glimpse at the rustic lifestyle of the tribes.
Lakes: The government's effort to put Yelagiri on the tourist map has paid off. Apart from Punganoor lake and boat house, there is yet another lake at Nilaoor, where you can go boating. The lakes are surrounded by gardens and a children's park. Yelagiri's latest boast is 'The Nature Park'. Sprawling over 7 acres are beautiful gardens, fountains, a waterfall, children's park and a musical fountain.
Religion and religious ceremonies take precedence in the lives of the tribes. This is evident from the many temples seen, one in each of the 14 villages. However, the Murugan Temple and Shivan Temple are popular.
The Sericulture farm run by the government is yet another interesting spot to visit in Mangalam.
Jalagamparai Waterfalls, 24 kms from Jolarpet junction, (34 Kms from Yelagiri) is an ideal spot for a day's picnic. The water at the falls depends largely on Yelagiri's rainfall. So enquire first before heading off for the waterfalls.
Various spots have been located as take off ground for paragliding; hence a new sport has set foot on our soil. Be sure to inquire with your host and plan your vacation during the paragliding season.
At the end of a good day's activity, you deserve an evening of blissful leisure. Sit back under a starry sky; shake a foot to the music while the bonfire crackles into the night. Or watch a movie out in the open right from your cottage verandah. A perfect end to a perfect day!
