Abhayagiri Dagoba:  The name translates to "Fearless Hill ". It is one of the most ancient structures in the world which was once known to be a ceremonial monastery for over 4000 people.

Sri Maha Bodhi : The ancient Bodhi tree is known to be close to 2000 years old and is of great spiritual and historical significance to Anuradhapura. The best time to visit the place is during sunset and is sees thousands of devotees on a daily basis.

Jetavanaramaya: A famous Stupa which is located in the Jetavana monastery. It is one of the tallest structures in the world and is well known to house a sash which was tied to the Stupa by Lord Buddha.
The Nuwarawewa and Tissawewa are two of the most well known guest houses in the city which are known to serve delightful Western, Continental as well as local cuisine at a decent price.

Cargills Food City: One of the most well known stores in the city where you can get bakery products, ready to eat supplies as well as fresh meat .
The best shopping in Anuradhapura is around the old town area where you have plenty of stalls and shops that sell authentic local handicrafts, wood crafts, sculptures, clay figures and figurines, cane crafts as well as handlooms and antiques.
