Kaikoura is a town located on the east coast of South Island. It has some of the most breath-taking views of the country; stunning coastline, a dramatic peninsula and some of the highest mountains by the oceanside.
Kaikoura is rich in European and Maori history and that's evident when you pay a visit to the museums - Fyffe House and Kaikoura. The region is also rich in marinelife and you'll come across whales, dolphins, NZ fur seals, albatrosses and a wide variety of fish. There are plenty of outdoor activities including hiking, biking and kayaking. In Maori language, Kaikoura means 'meal of crayfish'. The restaurants all serve this local delicacy along with a host of other delectable options. Kaikoura is also easily accessible from all nearby destinations; a 2.5 hour drive from Chirstchurch, a 1.5 hour drive from Blenheim and a 2 hour drive from Picton.
