Spreewald-Lubbenau are twin locations consisting of a town adjoining a nature reserve which encompasses an area of around 500 square kilometers, in the state of Brandenburg, a drive of only one and a half hours southeast of Berlin. Designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, Spreewald is an exquisitely picturesque area consisting of serene forest areas, inland waterways, countryside hikes and unforgettable boating rides that share similarities with the gondolas of Venice. Hence the sobriquet, 'Venice of Brandenburg'. It is said that the 200 canals here cover a distance of 1,300 kilometers (i.e. a hundred kilometers short of the driving distance between Berlin and Paris)! Lubbenau's old town center is a hub for exciting activities. You can savor the Spreewald night lights when the canals, bridges, streams, and farmlands are carpeted with colorful glowing lights or spend your time relaxing at one of the many cafes.
