Yarlam

Nestled in the Eastern Himalaya of India is the tiny State of Sikkim, known for its natural beauty and inhabited by very hospitable, gentle and peace loving people. Located at a distance of around 120 km from the capital city of Gangtok, the drive all the way to Lachung is very adventurous and picturesque. One gets to experience driving over running streams and beside the mighty Teesta River. Numerous waterfalls along the way are truly a traveler's delight.

Yumthang Valley
At 11,800 ft, the valley is simply mind blowing. Surrounded by an alpine forest of silver fir and high snow capped peaks, its charms get even more irresistible in spring when primulas carpet the valley floor along with the outburst of rhododendrons, primroses and other wild blossoms. It is also famous for hot springs.

Yumesamdong (0 point)
About 24km from yumthang the trail is filled with the fragrance of the azellia, a plant collected by the locals as incense. Here one can experience the enchanting views of a mountainous terrain in snow.

Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary
The sanctuary which lies beyond the frontier village of lachung en route to yumthang valley is called as singba rhododendron wild life sanctuary, the forest surrounded by snowy mountains provides good habitate for avifauna and flora. It is also home for the state tree rhododendron niveum.

Domang Valley
Located at a distance of around 14 km from lachung, The drive all the way with running streams and amidst the silver fir is truly a travelers delight.

By Air
The nearest airport is Bagdogra in North Bengal, 124 km from Gangtok, or nearly four hours drive. Bagdogra has regular flights from Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati. Heli service is also available from Bagdogra to Gangtok.

By Rail
The two closest railway stations are Siliguri (114 km) and New Jalpaiguri (125 km) connecting to Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.

Please note

• Lachung is located at a distance of 120 km from Gangtok and all visitors who wish to visit lachung must spend a night in Gangtok.
• Lachung being restricted area one must procure restricted area permit through a travel agency registered with the Tourism Department, Govt of Sikkim which is issued by the police checkpost division.
• Besides foreign nationals a permit is issued simply by producing 2 passport size photos and a photo identity of each individual.
• Visitors require an Inner Line Permit(ILP) to enter into Sikkim an ILP is valid for 15 days which can be extended by the state Government.
  
• ILP are available at All Indian Missions, State Tourism Offices at New Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri & Rangpo Tourist Lodge.
