Getting to Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi, known for the Bridge over the River Kwai, is the town to be in if you want to explore Thailand's wild west. Presently the town is bustling and alive but the many war museums and cemeteries take you back to the darker times. The historical museums and cemeteries depict the events of World War II. On the other hand, the lively national parks and roaring waterfalls can be explored by train or by rafting tours. For in-town attractions, one can rent a motor bike or bicycle. The streets of Kanchanaburi are a 10-minute walk away from the train station. Most accommodation is on or around the river and is available at various price ranges.

Bridge over the River Kwai: A bridge made famous by movies and books. The bridge is also called Death Railway and connects Thailand and Myanmar. The bridge was built to provide a supply line for Japanese troops in Myanmar during World War II. Ironically, due to the difficult terrain, thousands of laborers lost their lives.

The Hut: The cold drinks, great food, good ambiance and welcoming staff puts this restaurant on the must-visit list. The food served in inexpensive and cuisine is Thai and western.
Bo Ploi Jewellery Handicraft Centre: If you enjoy little gemstones, a trip to Bo Ploi is a must. You can watch how the gemstones are fashioned into beautiful jewelry here. It is quite expensive though.
