Lying on the southern slopes of the outer Himalayas, Tehri Garhwal is a quaint but one of the most alluring hill districts in the hilly northern state of Uttarakhand. Tehri does not disappoint and has various options for the keen traveler. Tehri has a temple trail for the religious traveler; water sports, skiing, angling, rafting, canoeing, hiking and trekking for the adrenaline lover and stunning vistas for a peace loving relaxing kind. The charming hill stations of Kanatal, Dhanaulti, Chamba, Uttarkashi and Mussoorie form a part of Tehri Garhwal. The district is supposed to have a great religious significance as well. Tehri derives its name from the word ?Trihari?, which means a place which absolves the three sins evolving out of thoughts, words and actions. Devprayag, Gangotri, Uttarakashi, Chandrabadani and Buda Kedar Temple are some of the religious centers of Tehri.

Why Visit ?
New Tehri Town & Tehri Dam : The New Tehri town, situated at an elevation of 1950mts, is a planned town overlooking the massive Tehri lake. The quaint little town offers stunning views of the dazzling Tehri Dam and is a must visit.

Narendranagar : Narendranagar offers splendid views of the beautiful Doon Valley and the mighty Ganga. The sunset view from the valley is immensely attractive. Another major attraction of the town is the palace of Tehri Raja amidst a forest.

Chamba : 48kms from Narendranagar on the Gangotri, lies the majestic town of Chamba offering a splendid view of the snow-capped mighty Himalayas and the serene Bhagirathi Valley. The town is famous for its delicious apples.

Buda Kedar Temple : At the confluence of the Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers, lies the historically significant Buda Kedar Temple. According to legends, Duryodhana offered prayers in his father?s memory at this temple. The temple offers spectacular views of the valley.

Devprayag : Devprayag is considered to be one of the most holiest places according to the Hindu belief. Situated at the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers, devotees offers prayers and take the customary dip. The great temple of Lord Raghunathji is another attraction.

Chandrabadni : Chandrabadni temple situated on the top of the Chandrabadni mountain, lies at a distance of 22kms from Devprayag. The temple is an important Shaktipeeth devi temple and commands a beautiful view of the Sirkanda, Badrinath and Kedarnath peaks.

Nag Tibba : Nag Tibba offers panoramic view of the Himalayas. For those interested in trekking and adventure, Nag Tibba offers ample opportunities. The place is a base camp for treks in the region. Nag Tibba offers excellent skiing trails.

Dhanaulti : Dhanaulti is a tiny hamlet that lies between Mussoorie and Chamba. Dhanaulti is enveloped with impenetrable and lush green forests of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak. The place is very relaxing and serene. Dhanaulti Eco Park is a major attraction of the hamlet.

Kanatal : On the Chamba Mussoorie road, lies the queen of hills ? Kanatal. A beautiful, small village surrounded by the breathtaking hills of Tehri Garhwal, Kanatal provides mesmerizing views of lush green forests, snow clapped hills and deep valleys. Surkanda Temple is a major attraction of the village. It is a fairly easy 2km uphill trek. Ponies can also be hired. Kanatal attracts thousands of tourists every year with its pleasing weather and spectacular beauty.

Uttarkashi : Uttarkashi, perched at an elevation of 1352mts is a picturesque spot on the banks of the Bhagirathi river. Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, one of the reputed mountaineering institutes of India is located here.

Rishikesh : Rishikesh in the Shivalik Himalayas is a religious center point with its numerous temples. Other attractions in Rishikesh are white water rafting, canoeing and kayaking in the mighty Ganga and camping on the river beach.

Mussoorie : Mussoorie as a hill station needs no introduction. The pretty Raj-style hill station situated amidst green hills rich in flora and fauna, is called the ?Queen of Hills?. Kempty Falls, the famous Mall Road, Bhatta Falls, Gun Hill and Lal Tibba are the main attractions of Mussoorie. 
White Water Rafting, Kayaking and Canoeing at Rishikesh is a must do.

Walk through the forest trail in the lush and impenetrable deodar, rhododendron and oak forests at Dhanaulti.

Sample the local cuisine at small eateries across the state. The local food is simply phenomenal. Don?t miss the Phanu dal, Techwani chutney made of radish or potatoes, the green leafy vegetable curry called Kafuli and Jholi, a tuber gravy.The restaurants and resorts in the bigger towns serve Indian, Chinese and the other usual favourites.
Look out for local handicrafts, shawls, Uttarakhand honey, herbs, exotic apple and pear jams and sauces. Locally made organic apricot face scrubs, body wash and face wash creams are a good buy

Currency : Indian Rupee.
Climate : Pleasant throughout the year. Summers are a plesant 25 degrees. Snow fall in winters is common. Avoid mosooons.
Connectivity : Tehri Garhwal has no rail nor air connectivity. Nearest airport is at Dehra Dun. But the road connectivity is good. 
Cultural Habits : The locals are friendly and hold their culture, heritage and practices in high esteem. 
Trivia : Uttarakhand is considered to be abode of Gods (Dev Bhoomi). According to the legends, the Dev Lok was based in the present day Uttarakhand.
