Overview
Ramathra Fort lies between two of India's internationally famous wildlife reserves, Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur and Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve in Sawai Madhopur. The fort, the lake and countryside are the three big attractions of Ramathra Fort.
The fort has a strong perimeter wall crowned with parapets. Its ramparts are wide and offer a spectacular view from the hilltop. Inside there is a multi-storey palace, parts of which are being restored using traditional building techniques and local craftspeople. Stone lattices and a painted ceiling ornament the otherwise simple facilities.
What distinguishes Ramathra Fort from many other heritage homes is its remoteness from the urbane and closeness to nature. Ramathra is part of a green farming belt in the Kalisil River valley. The Daang plateau, stretching east to the Chambal River valley and as far as Ranthambhore to the south, is filled with gorges.
The Stay
Ramathra Fort opened its first season with six luxury tents. Today Guest accommodations include 6 Suites and 6 Luxury Tents.
Luxury Tents Beautifully designed luxury tents set against the fort's rampart walls surrounding a lush courtyard lawn. With its high ceilings and screened windows, each spacious interior is decorated with modern teak furniture, printed cotton furnishings and traditional flat woven rugs. The sleeping chamber has comfortable beds and night tables with reading lamps. The sitting room with its cushioned chairs, coffee table and writing desk provides ample room to enjoy morning tea or to spread out a map and plan the day's adventure.
A private and spacious bathhouse built of stone and mortar is attached
to every tent. Amenities include hot water, flush toilets, tiled showers
and a dressing area. The bathhouse is also a place where you can
lock-up valuables while you are out for the day. Like a bungalow, each
tent has its own private porch furnished with a couple of chairs and a
table. Each porch is protected by the rampart wall and is a great place
to relax with friends or to simply enjoy some peace and quiet.
Suites Category One Each suite features its own bedroom, an elegant sitting area with a fireplace, a King-size bed with luxury linens, custom furnishings and hand-woven rugs. A private terrace provides a grand view of the landscape and its magnificent sunsets. The use of Karauli stone and traditional construction practices bestows an authentic and sophisticated ethnicity to these new spaces.
Category Two These rooms are similar to the suites above but without a private terrace. Instead, they open out onto an open courtyard. These rooms can also serve as two connecting rooms for use by a family of four or a group of friends.
