Overview
At Gorukana, they understand that responsible tourism involves caring for the land, the local people and the wildlife. They are committed to becoming a sustainable model for Eco-toursim where all their profits go towards bio-diversity conservation and tribal development.

The Land: Upon the northernmost tip of the Nilgiris, connecting the Eastern & Western Ghats lies the somewhat lesser known pristine forests of Biligirirangan Hills.

The Wildlife: The BR Hills ecosystem supports nearly 800 species of plants from various families and a diverse number of animals in their natural habitat.

The People: The original inhabitants of these forest areas are a tribal community called Soligas. For hundred of years this region has been the home of the semi-nomadic Soliga tribe.
The Stay
Cottages
Tastefully furnished for a comfortable stay, choose from among ten cottages each named after a beautiful animal found in BR Hills. Each cottage is a duplex that has been designed to cater to the needs of a family of four. Relax in the upper level during the day and catch the amazing view through 12 feet high glass windows.

Crafted out of local materials, being sensitive to the local environment, Gorukana cottages blend into the land and the trees around. Relax on the chair made out of lantana by a local tribal craftsman. Breathe in the cool breeze in the evenings blowing through the trees from the rain water harvesting pond.

Tent House
Put your feet up and relax in the tent house that is a little away from everything else. Wake up to the marvelous view of the organic farm.

Tree House
For the true nature lovers, experience the tree house with bamboo walls that has been built around two beautiful trees overlooking the rain water harvesting pond. The tree house and tent house can take a maximum of three people with an extra bed included.
Facilities
Dining
The dining area can comfortably seat 45 people at a time. Enjoy the beautiful view of the lake while sampling fresh local food made in our kitchen that can cater to a hundred people. They use locally found ingredients, the fresh milk comes daily from the VGKK dairy farm, and most of the vegetables are obtained from our organic farm or bought locally in BR HIlls.

Coffee Bar
The cool misty weather of BR Hills makes for a great cup of coffee while enjoying the selection of Wildlife videos and books from our library. Come to the coffee bar to enjoy not only good coffee / tea but try ayurvedic health drinks made by the people of BR Hills.

Conference
Alongside the nature experience they have a conference area that can accomodate 50 people with wireless internet access and a projector. Enjoy this unique opportunity to conduct business in possibly the most tranquil office space you will ever be in.

Ayurvedic Health Center
Enjoy a theraputic massage in the health center that has been built right in the middle of the rain water harvested lake. The trained massage therapists will help you truly relax and rejuvenate. Consult with their Ayurvedic Doctor on natural remedies for any ailments.
Things To Do
At Gorukana, you can set your own pace. Sit by the lake and watch the kingfisher making a vertical dive for its lunch or gaze at the clouds from the hammock, as the langur monkeys alert the forest of a passing predator. Or simply lie back in your cottage or tent and catch up on your reading.

Safari
Take a jeep safari and try your luck at spotting larger animals. Bring along your camera and capture jungle drama if that is your idea of a holiday. Trained Soliga naturalists, who've lived here all their lives, and who have been trained by highly qualified professionals, share their knowledge and love for the forest and the animals.

Trekking
If trekking or birdwatching is your thing, our trained naturalist will take you on a trek and interpret the language of the forest for you.

Take a short walk to visit a Podu (Tribal Hamlet) and learn how the Soligas have lived since time immemorial in the forests of BR Hills.

Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Center
The Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Centre, set in the midst of a peaceful lake, has trained experts from Kerala to soothe sore muscles and ease the pressures of city life.

Cultural Experience
Experience local tribal and culinary experiences including the Tribal Resource Center and share the culture and history of the Soliga tribe. Peer at artifacts dated 800 BC and marvel at such sophistication way before Google entered our lives. Out here, there are no traffic jams. Unless you count the clamoring sambhars at the salt lick.

Voluntourism
This is a fairly modern concept that integrates the best of travel and volunteering.
Be more than just our guests at Gorukana. While you are enjoying your stay, why not visit the VGKK residential school, maybe even take a class for the students, help out on the organic farm, harvest vegetables and herbs that you will enjoy for dinner, picked by your own hands or even work on the dairy farm! There is a lot you will take back from each of these unique experiences, and you can take our word for it, these experiences will leave a lasting impression on your mind!

If a hospital in the middle of the jungle was not interesting enough, they even have mobile medical camps that take the best health care right to the door steps of the people who most need it. They could always use an extra hand, or maybe you are just intrigued and want to see how things work. A kind word, a piece of sincere advice, a helping hand or any support you can provide will be graciously accepted with their heartfelt thanks!

Boutique
You are welcome to buy any of the VGKK products such as Amla Juice, Sogade Beru Juice (Winter Cherry / Ashwagandha Juice), Amla Pickles as well as merchandise such a caps and T Shirts that are on sale in the boutique. They also have on offer ayurvedic plants from their own nursery for sale.
