Life is outside offers 'activity holidays' pegged around nature, culture, livelihood and adventure experiences set against the fascinating backdrop of India's sub tropical forests - the Western Ghats. Through our unique partnership with WGEE, they strive to unite conservation, communities and sustainable travel. 

They focus on special interest tours centred around on nature, culture, livelihood and adventure experiences in authentic settings. The trip leaders, planners, managers, logistic support providers etc belong to communities from the local area. The fondness for the outdoors and WGEE's years of association with the Western Ghats enables us to offer you exciting holidays that enable you to experience the Ghats in all their brilliance.
The Stay
On all activity holidays the accommodation is in rural home-stays. The accommodation is basic but clean and functional. A clean room with an attached toilet and bathroom is the most one can expect. Nutritious traditional home cooked food, local hospitality and warmth in abundance can be taken for granted.
Activities on Offer

They offer a wide range of activity based holidays.

Walking holidays: We believe the perfect way to explore and experience the outdoors is to WALK!  Tropical Canopy walk, Plantation walk, Butterfly walk are a few choices.

Fairs and festivals: If you thought the Ghats are only about nature we?d like to prove you wrong. Through seasonal events and festivals like Bhoomi Hunnime festival, Kambala weekend or performing arts like Dollu Kunitha, Kollataand Yakshagana - experience the rich cultural heritage of Malnad with the locals.

Malnad monsoon magic: Malnad has been historically known for its rugged terrain, torrential monsoons, hardy people and steeped culture and heritage. Experience the rusticity and vivacity of the region on this program. Farm, hike, or just watch the rain, this season is splendid offering an array of greens to the traveler.

Snapshot Holidays:This one's for all you shutterbugs who?d like to get creative with their holidays. Led by a professional photographer, these holidays revolve around themes, combining expert advice and some neat tips amidst natural settings. From Monsoon photography to Landscape photography, from Macro photography to photographing endemic species in the wild - take your pick while we innovate on our offerings!

Hobby Courses: If you are sizeable group of people who wish to learn on your vacation, we have some native courses on offer -

Chittara: Chittara drawings are intricate patterns that represent the auspicious ceremonies and riturals of life symbolized in geometric patterns. These beautiful paintings use eco-friendly natural resources like ground rice paste for white colour, roasted rice for black, yellow seeds and red earth and the brushes are made of Arecanut fibre.

Dollu Kunitha: Dollu Kunitha is a form of folk-dance performance in Karnataka. It is generally performed to commemorate an auspicious event. The performance like almost all other folk performances of India is not only a mode of entertainment but is intended towards the spiritual well being of the performers and the spectators.

Kollata: Kolata is a folk dance form of karnataka. The dancers jump, bend, and sway the sticks in accordance with the music. The songs of Kolata include romantic and battle themes.

Also they have courses in Pottery, Cane basket weaving, Cloth making etc.

Location

Most of these holidays are based around Nandigodu and Hebbenkeri in the Sharavathy valley. The nearest town is Sagar (which is 360kms from Bangalore) in Shimoga district. 

By Road: From Bangalore, the ideal route to Sagar is via Shimoga (270kms). From Shimoga drive to Sagar (75kms). The trip leader will reach you at Sagar and guide you further on.
 
There are direct KSRTC luxury, deluxe (Rajahamsa) and even Airavata buses from Bangalore. There are also comfortable non-AC overnight sleeper buses, run by KSRTC, Sea Bird, Gajanana, Kamat etc. All buses going towards Gokarna, Karwar, Honnavar, Sirsi, Jog, Bhatkal pass via Sagar town.
 
By Rail: Nearest Railway Stations: Sagar, Talguppa (22km); Honnavar (70 km - on Mumbai to Mangalore - Konkan line), Shimoga (98 km), Birur junction (118kms on Bangalore - Pune main line) - . There are daily trains from Bangalore to Shimoga. The Talaguppa - Shimoga line has been temporarily shut for conversion to broad gauge. The overnight train to Shimoga is a convenient alternative. From Shimoga, there are local buses to Sagar or you could hire a taxi to Sagar. For those heading from Mumbai, Mumbai - Birur is a good option. From Birur it is a 2 and half hour drive. You could also come down Konkan route to Honnavar. From Honnavar it is an hour and a half drive up the Ghats.

By Air: Nearest Airport: Hubli (110 km) Mangalore (200 km)
