Peaceful gardens, well planted with fruit trees surround this unique Kodaikanal house. Two sunny rooms with private baths, detached from the main house, make the stay truly memorable.
Relax... on the porch, or perhaps in the quiet of the living room where a log fire awaits you on chilly days. A selection of books, newspapers and magazines is at hand. Set away from the bustle of the town centre, the lush lawns provide many places to relax in the sun or just savor quiet moments alone...wander through the garden escorted by two playful dogs and see unusual organic fruit and vegetables growing.
A delectable full western breakfast using home made cheese, jams, breads and more is served at 8:30 am in the dining room. A gourmet dinner, using locally grown produce is served in the dining hall at 7:30 pm.
The rooms are well insulated with hard wood floors and pine ceilings to keep the cold at bay. You will enjoy a good night's rest and wake up to the chirping of birds and squirrels.
Guests find their porch a great place to just relax or spend time in conversations ranging from sustainability to global warming. Then of course there is the living room where dessert is enjoyed and conversations continue. Laundry facilities are available at an extra charge. Parking is available on the premises.
Today's fast-paced, drive-through world often does not present the opportunity to think about the food that is being consumed, where it came from or its history. When a guest at Cinnabar views the chef's creations on their plate, they are looking at far more than a bean, carrot or pea. They are looking at living history - an unbroken chain of genetic diversity handed down to us by our ancestors.
They understand that establishing culinary renown requires more than a particular specialty or one person's touch. It is a rare collection of artisans - the chef, the master gardener, the baker, the cheese maker, the jam lady - who blend their unique talents to create what our guests know as Cinnabar.
Farming provides the means to safeguard the natural beauty of this land and to experience it hands-on. This effort affords our guests with the means to truly be part of this place. While you are here, you will sample the products grown on our land. You may take part in the farm activities, which will increase your understanding and therefore appreciation of the relationship that we have to the land and to the food it provides us.
If you long to know a place, to feel a connection to it, visit Cinnabar and immerse yourself in the farm by observing and participating. You will experience singular meals that are the result of the effort of passionate artisans who recognize the importance of knowing from where their ingredients come. As you partake, you, too, will become
part of this place.
In the heirloom vegetable garden at Cinnabar we strive to realize a bounty of nutritious organic vegetables and fruits by thoughtfully stewarding the farm's most basic component - its soil. Daily, kitchen scraps and green matter from the garden are collected. We allow it to decay and age in compost heaps, then turn it into the soil in March. We sow nitrogen-building legume and cover crops to protect bare soil from erosion and to gain energy for the upcoming growing season.
